Rest

When was the last time you felt unrushed, that you had all the time in the world?

Honestly, I really struggle with this, feeling like there is more to do than I have time to do pretty much every day. Even on the weekends, when I'm supposed to be off work, not only do I squeeze in some work, but my family schedule can get filled up (and I haven't even begun to think about all the things that need fixing around the house!)

I have big dreams--and a big family (4 kids) -- and I post a lot about going for gold and not settling. I do believe that the world needs you to pursue your dreams and that you can become fully alive in that pursuit, too. But we were not made to be in go-mode every day, all day. We are NOT fully alive when we live without things like rest, quiet, and even slow hours with no "accomplishment" other than being fully present in the beautiful world.

After working for 6 days to create the world, God Himself rested on the 7th day--not because He was tired, but to model for us what the ideal life looked like. Sure, we should all have a grand project we are pursuing, but we should also have regular days of unrushed time.

How will you create some unrushed time this weekend? Will you take a nap? Will you go for a walk?
