Risk management

"Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." - T.S. Eliot

Your survival depends on avoiding risks that could kill you. But your success depends on taking risks that could reward you.

Good living means good risk management, not risk elimination.

This requires two skills:

1. Risk Evaluation: When deciding what risk is worth taking, how skilled are you at juggling multiple factors and realistically calculating probabilities?

2. Emotional Regulation: When facing uncertainty and loss, how skilled are you at keeping your fear from overwhelming your ability to make smart choices?

There are ways to reduce your risk, and we should learn them. Reckless risk isn't brave; it is immature. But the only way to eliminate risk is to quit playing at all.

Which of these skills are you stronger at: risk evaluation or emotional regulation?
